Inspired by my Nieces early growth from snap shooters to photographers I returned to an early interest in traditional photography but now with digital -- for years I was waiting to get back into photography till I could afford a Digital SLR to match my old film cameras but I finally decided that could lead to me waiting forever and that what was most important was my approach not my equipment. So, I upgraded to a camera phone and opened my photographic eye back up.
Starting with the iPhone 3GS and moving onto the iPhone4 I found I was right -- in the last year and a half I regained most of the photographic vision that I once exercised with small and medium format SLRs figuring out tricks to take a little more control of the results than I'd thought would be possible with an automatic camera phone with a fixed wide angle lens.
However, there are pictures I can't get and too many things I have to leave to chance with an iPhone so I figure I'm about ready to pick up my old tools reborn in the form of a used Canon 5D dSLR [update, had to sell it to raise money but at least good used equipment retains most of its value which was one reason I bought it used knowing this might happen].
Of course, the iPhone is the camera I always have with me which often makes it the best camera and it is going to take some time till I regain my SLR skills.
