Career highlights:

Retired U S Marine and Soldier with 22 years of service. Participated in “Operations Desert Shield” and “Desert Storm” 1990-91. Participated in “Operations Noble Eagle” II and III and “Operation Jump Start”. (Homeland Security) US Border Patrol, NATO Advisor to Ukraine. Graduate of ITT Technical Institute with an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and a BS in Project Management.

In 1968, Sergeant Daniel William Porcupile, the only son of Gardner and Betty Porcupile was born in Yuma, Arizona. Gardner Leroy Porcupile, Dan’s father was a surviving crewmember of the USS Indianapolis disaster in 1945. Upholding traditional family values, Dan enlisted in the U S Marine Corps in 1985 at just 17 years of age. Dan graduated from Galena Park High School in 1986. He attended basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in San Diego, California, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, platoon 1099. Dan served as a Tank Crewman throughout his career. Dan also held various other positions including: Training NCO, Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Specialist, Embarkation Specialist, Public and Civil Affairs. Dan was meritoriously promoted to Non-Commissioned Officer (E-4), in February 1991. Dan was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (E-5) in 1993. Dan attended the Marine Corps Sergeant’s Course in 1995. Dan received several awards during his time in the Marine Corps including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Meritorious Unit Commendation for service during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Dan also received several letters of commendation and appreciation. Assignments included: Tank crewman 3rd Tank Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, Marine Barracks Ground Defense Force, Guantanamo Bay Cuba, Inspector and Instructor Staff, 4th Tank Battalion and DEMVAL IV-92 Arctic environment equipment Testing and Exploration with the Expeditionary Vessel, USS Germantown. Dan was a successful Marine Recruiter in San Diego. in 1992-93. Dan was also Armor transportation advisor for civilian mobility command, MOBEX 96’. Dan was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in August 1997.

Dan joined the California Army National Guard shortly after the end of his last enlistment with the United States Marine Corps in early 1998, continuing his military career as a M1A1 Tank Crewman. Dan attended the Army SINGARS Communication School in 2000. During the period from Sept 2002 through May 2004, Dan was mobilized with “B company, 1/149 Armor, 40th Infantry Division to help safeguard the nation from further attacks after 9/11 2001. Dan performed the following duties: React to Bomb Threat, React to Intruder, React to Unknown Threat, Evacuation, Repel Attack, React to Chemical Threat, Detain Suspect, Search and Seizure, Law Enforcement Activities, Mounted Patrol, Dismounted Patrol, Room and Structure Clearing by Search and Fire, Friend or Foe Identification, Civil Disturbance, Identification Procedures, Mid- Level First Aid, Weapons Qualification, Troop Leading Procedures, Augmentation Force Qualifications and VIP Security. Dan was assigned the duties of shift leader and Platoon Sgt. during his tour of homeland security, augmenting U S Border Patrol. Dan traveled to the Former Soviet republic of Ukraine as a NATO advisor in 2008. Dan served with 1/149 Armor and 1/185 Armor and finally retired from “B” Troop, 1/18 Cavalry. Dan has received several personal awards and decorations including: The Army Achievement Medal, (2nd Award), The California Commendation Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Medal. He was twice awarded with Enlisted Excellence ribbon and received several Commendations. Dan completely retired from the military in July 2009.

Currently Dan is consulting on matters dealing with leadership and professionalism and also is a subject matter expert in security issues. Dan often writes informative and editorial papers for publication on Linkedin and other online media pages.

Dan spends a great deal of time with his semiprofessional photography business and remains active in veteran’s issues and charitable organizations. Dan is a co-founder of the nonprofit organization “Huddle up for Heroes”. He enjoys camping, trips to the beach and working with computers. Dan has never married and has no children. Dan’s role models include, his father, mother, Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, Apollo space program Astronauts, Peter Lik, Denyce Edwards and all American patriots. Dan has wonderful service dog companions, “Kamots”, an East German Shepard and his hybrid Wolf husky mix “K2”. Dan is the last surviving family member with the Porcupile name.
