i like photography because its honest, i see it as being a real truth. its something concrete in a swirling mass of fabricated fluff. for the most part, im against using a camera for lies. [if its black and white that means its film. if theres borders that means its film.] all of these things really happened, that is my promise. a physical event transpired in my hands as well as before the lens. quite simply, i really like that. let the heavy hands guide paintbrushes. lets do justice to this experience if possible. thats the mission. in brief, those are my beliefs.
finally finished an interarts degree at uw milwaukee a few years ago. thats film and visual art [photo, drawing]. student loan debt... awesome. ive been skateboarding since i was 13 and always had video cameras and p+s cameras around because of it. around 2005 i really got nuts about photography and have been exploring the different formats and experimenting wtih different ways to use them. favorite stuff to shoot? honestly, anything but weddings - every time i do one i say its the last. if i could shoot skating everyday that would be primo. just got into shooting [and inevitably playing] hardcourt bike polo, which has been very exciting. action is great but ill settle for topographic thing pictures, raw journalistic documents of time/space, anything experimental, candid brotos + leaping pets, bands, security cameras, the police, people that dont know im taking their picture and then also the moment when they realize i am doing so... as far as gear goes, i prefer older cameras to anything digital but i realize its possible for the two to co-exist in my camera bag. being practical is more important than pledging allegiance to one format or another for cool points. if the thing takes a picture i will find a way to use it!! having options is important - a variety of tools for a variety of tasks, you know? right now im shooting with a modified sx-70, the holgafish, pentax p30 [35mm], polaroid one step, kowa seT, mamiya rb pro, yaschica samurai, minolta 110 zoom, kiev60, and the canon 40d, 5d and xti from work. i actually take underclass school pictures for a living, which is pretty ridiculous - kids are mostly fun to be around. ive always got some kind of photo projects going on - right now im two years into a five year "pictures of the number 13" mission, which should end with an art show of epic proportions [1313 pictures in all im hoping]. expect that show to open on 10-13-2013. ive been on my space doing blogs for the past three years - most everything i shoot goes into those, its basically a photo journal. go scope that out if you wish - theres a link down there... my intent with this site is to have a spot where i can post all the things i shoot at bike polo, and maybe a sample of the other stuff ive shot - maybe someday a work photo gallery?
heres a link to some red knife lottery music video production stills i shot that my friend threw up on his flickr...
