ME:
I am a retired scientist and writer-editor. I don't do science anymore. However, I am an avid follower of new developments in science and technology. I am the founder and manager of the World Geezer Forum. It is a highly eclectic, email-based discussion group, Its hallmark is mutual respect and courtesy among forum members.
I'm a dual USA and Swiss citizen, and a long-time resident of Switzerland's Canton Basel-Stadt. I moved here in 2000 to marry Franziska (née Aurousseau), Tragically, she passed away in 2022, far too young at age 55. She was a fine visual artist, editor and translator. I learned a lot of my present approach to photographic composition from her. Franziska was a dual French and Swiss citizen. She is ever in my heart.
PHOTOGRAPHY
I am a life-long avid amateur photographer. Years ago, I took many photos with film cameras. However, I got tired of the time and effort it took to get film processed and prints made. By the late 90s, I was not photographing much. I started shooting a bit more again when I moved to Switzerland in late 1999. In 2002, my first digital camera and digital photo editing greatly renewed my interest in photography. After going digital, I resumed being an avid photographer. I joined Flickr in 2006, but was not really active until 2013. Flickr has become the major way I share my work and interact with other photographers.
MY SUBJECTS
Anything that might make a beautiful, evocative, funny or intriguing image. Since joining Flickr. I have been photoraphing mostly here in CH and nearby parts of FR (e.g. Alsace) and DE (e.g. Black Forest).
MY IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES
Cameras are amazingly good now. I think it hardly matters what camera even an advanced amateur uses.
IMO image editing is where the action is. I edit every image that I shoot--if I intend to display it on Flickr or elsewhere. My editing software is the superb GraphicConverter. It only works with Apple devices. It's a huge bargain. It is NOT a subscription service. It is available in a long list of languages.
My camera these days is is mostly my iPhone 12, I own a collection of Nikon's fine DX (APS-C) DSLRs and lenses, I hardly use them any more. When I don't use my IPhone 12, I use a compact, rugged 10X travel zoom: the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ101. If I want even more zoom, I use a 24X Panasonic DMC-FZ150. These Panasonics have excellent Leica NON-interchangeable lenses., They zoom from moderate wide angle to telephoto,
