I’m Dale Cruse, a San Francisco-based architecture photographer and visual storyteller. I got my start as an Army photojournalist, where I first documented warchitecture—a term coined by Lebanese architect Bernard Khoury to describe the haunting beauty of war-scarred buildings. That early work lives on in my Bosnia and Croatia albums.

Today, I focus on San Francisco’s architectural character: fog-drenched Victorians, weathered signage, ornate facades, and sharp contrasts of light and shadow. From iconic landmarks like the Castro Theatre to overlooked corners of the Bayview, I look for moments where built spaces become emotional experiences.

My photography has taken me through Kyoto’s shrines and D.C.’s museums, with Lisbon next on the list. Whether using a Hasselblad, iPhone, or mirrorless digital camera, I aim for clean composition, honest edits, and strong lines.
