I started making my jewellery primarily as a creative outlet and as a way to express some of the design ideas I had been interested in exploring. Inspiration for me stems from a wide variety of sources. The things that move me most include the beauty of nature, the incredible work of H.R. Giger , M.C. Escher, my family of silversmiths, as well as personal interests like urban culture and classic car design. My goal as a metal smith is to continue exploring my ideas with the hopes of finding my style and perhaps one day have my work inspire others.
I was born on March 4, 1979 in Whiterock B.C. My mother is a gold and silversmith and when I was about 17, I started working with her making body piercing jewellery out of stainless steel and titanium. I did that for 12 years, trying to break into the custom body jewellery scene and help my mother grow her business. However, not having a background in business and having to deal with extreme competition from an increasing number of suppliers, I decided to change to a related field and became an apprentice machinist. Near the time I became an apprentice, I wanted to try and make jewellery that reflected my own interests, rather than making the custom pieces other people requested. I discovered the website etsy.com and so found a way to show my ideas to others online. I was living on the 17th floor of a downtown Edmonton apartment, and my balcony became my workshop. In 2009 I moved to a condo and now have a proper space to work. During the summer of 2010 I had an exciting opportunity to sell some of my jewellery in the gift shop of the Art Gallery of Alberta.
