I had written a testimonial for Cyrus but I feel compelled to re-write it. Admitedly, I am having a hard time finding the right words to describe him, but let me just say, that Cyrus is a man of many talents, most of all is his desire to make a difference in the world, to reach out to others, to be a source of strength, a source of friendship, support and encouragement. I am grateful to have come across him in one of our shared groups. I truly feel that the world is a better place because of Cyrus, and on top of all these words, Cyrus is an outstanding artist, of both the use of words and his knowledge and expertise behind a camera. Cyrus is a man of the world in every sense that phrase carries. He is multicultural, having been born Persian, raised in Norway, educated in England and currently in the USA. He is multidisciplinary, having a technical training (aeronautics) and training in physiology and the humanities. That multifaceted dynamic shows in his view of the world which seeps out in his photos. There is technical precision at work yet an artistic flow. In photos that capture humanity in its glory or its despair, there is this sensitivity that informs the mind yet tugs at the heart. It is a privilege to see the world through his eyes and it is an honor having him as a friend.

It only takes a moment of viewing Cyrus' photographs to realize you have stumbled upon a man who is blessed with "the gift". Technically he is superb and his post-processing always enhances his art in a unique yet natural way. His diversity of style is a thrill…I am ALWAYS eager to see his daily post. His ability to capture magical light takes my breath away; his landscapes are "other worldly" and never fail to expose us to a different perspective. Yes...Cyrus does have the opportunity to see beautiful people in beautiful places...but he “sees” the world differently than most. What he does better than anyone I know is to capture an image without disturbing the scene; he photographs as though he was never there…or perhaps as though he is “so much there” so intimately engaged with the subject that no one is adversely affected. It is always beautiful. But, more beautiful than his photography is the way he approaches it...the way he approaches life…with eyes wide-open and with real intention. Cyrus will surely be successful in all of his life pursuits; we are all fortunate that photography is a meaningful outlet for his creative essence…another way to connect to the greatness which surrounds us. I am grateful for his inspiration…for his guidance. I am grateful for his friendship. Cyrus Mafi is a special photographer whose work you will want to experience again and again.
