A note to those who might read my profile. I do not block people unless they are really being a pain (I think I only have one blocked). I will not add you if you do not have any uploaded photos or if all of your photos are hidden from the public. I appreciate honest and constructive critique of my photos. I do not take offence at comments that are constructive, even if I disagree with you :-).

In January 2011 I published my first book that is comprised of entirely my photographs. It was a fun experience and I now have ideas for future books. This was followed later in the month by a second book. This book was made as a present for a good friend who is moving from Arizona to Maine. I used to have links to preview the books, but they take up too much room. If you would like to see them just let me know & I will send you a link.

Photography is one of my two favorite hobbies (cycling is the other). In September '07 I got a new Rebel XTi dSLR. Since then I have been having fun playing around with it and experimenting a bit with software. I have downloaded a free HDR program (FDRTools) and also use Photoshop Elements, Corel Paint Shop Pro, and occasionally Protrait Professional (I am not big on digital plastic surgery, but sometimes a tweek is okay). In 2011 I added a Canon 60D to my collection of cameras. I have had an increasing interest in photographing people. My true love is candid shots; editorial and street photography. My biggest drawback is that I do not like sticking a camera in a persons face and taking their photo; however, if you see someone of interest and ask to take their photo, then what caught your eye is gone. I enjoy working with models, mainly because they like having their photo taken and I just enjoy people.

I am looking to improve my skills as a photographer. I invite you to look at my photographs and tell me what you like, what you do not like, and how I can improve my photographs. THANKS!

As of January 2008 we became residents of Arizona (Laveen, a part of the city of Phoenix). Arizona will be the 10th state that I have lived in (I have visited 49 of the 50 - still have South Dakota). I am enjoying the photographic opportunities. Other places I have lived include: Cary, NC; Florence, KY; Cincinnati, OH; Northern Virginia (Washington DC); East Lansing, MI (grad school); California (grew up in Walnut Creek and went to undergrad in Arcata); Memphis, TN; and I was born in St. Louis, MO (I know, way more information than you care about).

In addition to photography, I love road cycling, cooking (and eating), good beer, wine, margaritas, and good Kentucky bourbon.

Doug is s super nice guy with a witty sense of humor. We have shot together and live near each other. He really does enjoy people and finds a unique way to show the world what he sees. I especially like his landscape photography but that can be a lonely existence and he loves people too much to focus on only that. Like I said, a super nice guy and trustworthy, punctual and easy to be around with his relaxed personality.

I should probably talk first about Dougs photography....but i'm gonna talk about Doug first. Doug is a great person....the type of person that never stops surprising you (in a good way of course)...he is full of ideas and creativity....but the thing that counts the most is that he's a real friend....a person that is there when you need him...a person that helps as much as he can help. He is one of those people that reach out for you when there is nothing but the darkness and bring you out on the light...and i respect him because of that. Dougs photography is special....he respects the subject...he is creative....original....he is what he is.......and that's what counts the most.... The thing i like is that he's open for all subjects.....he's not affraid of experimenting....he likes challenges and he's not affraid of saying i could done this better.......and theese are the characteristics that a good photographer has.......modesty comes first....in life but also in photography. Glad to have you as a friend...and honored to have the privilege to enjoy in your work... Andrea

This testimonial is long overdue but I am glad I am taking the time now to tell you what a wonderful person and photographer Doug is. Doug stream is very varied...he is a wonderful nature photographer, but also loves to share in his adventures and explorations. Doug also likes portrait work and has done some very wonderful and tasteful portrait work. It seems like Doug always has his camera available...wish I could say the same. In addition, Doug, has been a wonderful Flickr Friend always there to share and to enjoy the mutual love of photography, and the desert. Thank you Doug, it has been my pleasure to call you a Flickr friend.
