My name is Susannah, which means graceful lilly in Hebrew.

I live in the UK, but travelled all over the world as a child, especially in the tropics.

I used to cycle to work (hence the bicycle in my avatar), I now live at the top of a cliff and can't face the cycle home after work!

I took up photography about 5 years ago. I think the photographer who has inspired me most so far is Yann Arthus Bertrand - his Earth from the Air exhibition was awesome.

I love trying to capture the ephemeral - fleeting moments - a laugh, a wink, a moment in nature, a beautiful sunset. I try to capture things that are upbeat, make me feel happy or hide a noble message.

I love it when I feel my photo has captured the character of the subject - for example, my bee kneeling to drink nectar from a flower or the blackbird in full song.

There is so much sadness and difficulty in life I like to redress the balance by trying to create beautiful and happy photos.

Occasionally, I'll make an exception to this when I'm trying to capture a mood or to be a bit more activist. :-)

El Relf says:

My sister Susannah - generous, ethical, intelligent, creative, kind, determined, nature-loving, people-loving, humorous, fantastic cook! :-p - all these things are reflected in her photos, but I think her best quality is her honesty. And thats what I like seeing in her photos too.
