Drag to set position!
Major interest has been British railways since a schoolboy in the 1960s. (except during the 70s when I spent most of my spare time operating in Amateur Radio with callsign GM4ENF). Interest in railways reactivated in 1981. Secondary hobbies are Motorcycling (currently riding a BMW K1200RS SE), Real Ale and Curry.
Some of the images which appear here, particularly from before the early 2000s, were were taken in locations which then were legally accessible but are no longer so.
In my descriptions I have been as accurate as I can. Most of the information if from personal experience. For some images I have used other sources, including Freightmaster, the IH**' publications and in some cases Working Timetables. Friends with more knowledge of the subject than myself have also assisted on a few occasions. For the Eighties personal observation with some 'inside' assistance. From 2013 RTT has been a valuable resource.
Unfortunately when out around the railway scene, sometimes by plan and sometimes incidental to work commitments, the weather was not always good, the sun didn't shine and when it did it was not always in the right place to illuminate the subjects. Also, the quality of media and the specification of cameras were not always appropriate to the subject, shutter speed particularly. Despite care, the scanning process has sometimes not replicated the accuracy of the colour of the original transparencies and often reduced the sharpness of the images. Examples of all will be seen in here. I have also included some scans of B&W prints from the early and mid 60s. The technical quality of these is not good but some may be of interest. These older scans will in due course include some from Barry Docks taken in 1965. Some images may appear more than once as on many occasions two cameras were used in parallel. As of 2016 I am still taking the occasional photograph but where I now live the options are very limited. Now in January 2018, since my last update focus has been on photographing VTEC HSTs, these soon to be augmented by Scotrail HSTs as they are introduced into service during this coming year.
