The Grand Lodge of the Č.S.P.S. of Baltimore City is a Czech benevolent society that was formed by Bohemian immigrants to facilitate their socialization in the United States. Voztech Vohrna, Josef Vavrina, Vaclav Neuman, Otto Hilser, Joseph Schir, and Dominik Zelenka established the Grand Lodge on November 8, 1880 when the papers of incorporation were signed. The signers served as the Board of Directors for the first year, and set out to assure the continuation of Bohemian history, culture, language, and spirit. Č.S.P.S. supported a Czech language school, enjoyed social events, provided health and life insurance, and created a cemetery for its members. The Grand Lodge of the Č.S.P.S. operated in Baltimore City and other counties throughout the state of Maryland. It became so popular that branches of the organization were established throughout the United States.
