I have been taking photos since around the age of 9, and won my first competition in 'Look and Learn' magazine at the age of 10. My work eventually got in the way of wet film photography, but I returned to the hobby in 2004 after a break of nearly 20 years when digital SLR made it practical once more. I shoot with a D810 having moved on from a D700, D2XS, D200 and D70 before that. My all Nikon glass consists of 50mm 1.4D, 85mm 1.4D, 14-24mm 2.8G, 24-70 2.8, and 70-200 2.8G and 70-300 4.5-5.6 Nikkor lenses. I could do with some formal training as I have only ever learned through trial and error. I don't spend time in post-production other than to tweak levels, white balance and to put a little bit of colour back into skies in Lightroom. I once had the privilege of spending a little time in conversation with Don McCullen having won an amateur competition prize among a set of professional awards. When I said 'Oh, I'm just the amateur', he very kindly said 'it doesn't matter whether you are making money out of it, what really matters is that you love photography.'
Wary of putting life 'out there' on line, in a world increasingly plagued by online insecurity, my photostream is behind closed doors these days, with the exception of legacy material which was posted some years back.
