Astrocruzan is the best! I downloaded one of his pictures of Lighthouse Point and it is my desktop background. Has been for months. I look at it everyday. it is a perfect composition and is meaningful to me in a personal way. Cruz's pictures are often like this for me, great compositions, but with something more.

truth be told, i could easily go through and favorite every single one of Don's photos. i contemplated doing it...but then i realized, if i looked at every single one of his photos tonite (which, in the spirit of honesty, i could do without thinking twice), i'd have nothing left to look at tomorrow. and quite frankly, … Read more

truth be told, i could easily go through and favorite every single one of Don's photos. i contemplated doing it...but then i realized, if i looked at every single one of his photos tonite (which, in the spirit of honesty, i could do without thinking twice), i'd have nothing left to look at tomorrow. and quite frankly, i would be saddened. though, the more i think about it, the more enticing it sounds. however, i think i could very well explode from way too much goodness. what makes his work even better, in my eyes, is he is the nicest guy ever. i had the pleasure of meeting him at the S.F. Polaroid Nerdout and as a testament to his character, he loaned his 55mm red glass filter when i realized i had left mine elsewhere. (hehe which i still need to mail off!! i lag, sorry.) i can't say enough good things about the man and eagerly look forward to every shot he will post in the future, immediate or distant.

astrocruzan's work is an inspiration. He is one of those rare artists who, through his wonderful photographs, has changed the way I see things through the lens. His landscapes, in particular, are timeless and evocative. One of my favorite photographers, on Flickr or otherwise.

I had the good fortune to spend the better part of a day exploring San Francisco with Don, watching him snap one wonderful photograph after another, and from what I recall only a small fraction of the good stuff ended up on flickr. If that weren't enough, Don is also about as kind and generous and humble a person as I … Read more

If that weren't enough, Don is also about as kind and generous and humble a person as I have met. In taking a close look at his photographs, however, that shouldn't surprise anyone.

Astrocruzan is a pro both technically and artistically. Every one of his photos is imbued with a soul and essence. When I view his photos I feel like I'm looking at the subject for the first time, even if I know them well. In an Astrocruzan photo, the world is more sublimely beautiful and full of wonder than I ever realized. He has a gift for making the smallest scenes "a happening" and instills them with a wonderful sense of drama and light.

How to begin? Well, you won't see too many of my comments on astrocruzan's stream for one simple reason - if I started I would have a tough time stopping, and there aren't enough hours in the day! Just a few examples: look at his panorama set and learn how it's done; admire his cat photos - perfection in an overworked Flickr field, cruzan's are the best bar none; bird pictures - just his pelicans are flight are jawdropping; Santa Cruz - it's not just a place in a song by The Thrills, it's brought to life here; did I mention flower pictures? Again an overworked cliché area, but cruzan's are among the very best, full of colour and depth; finally, how can anyone have such mastery of that arcane device the scanner? How did he manage to use one to get the best Fender Stratocaster picture anywhere??? www.flickr.com/ph... Simply put, every picture here is worthy of space on your wall. And yes, in time I WILL add those comments! Just bit by bit please...
