Barcelona, Spain, 1979 - Johan Cruyff decided to develop his own sports brand. Johan envisioned elegant sportswear that was perfectly designed for the technical player. Central to his philosophy was the creation of a brand that was both functional and stylish. Little did he know that Van Basten, later compared to a ballerina and Bergkamp, a true virtuoso on the field, were going to play their greatest matches in Cruyffs. Both men embody Cruyff’s ideals, playing perfect technical football with stylish elegance.

Two legends at work - Cruyff’s vision became reality when he began working with another legend and close friend, Emilio Lazzarini, a famous Italian designer. Lazzarini is responsible for the flexibility and comfort that is integrated into each and every design. Cruyff is responsible for pioneering the revolutionary combination of functionality and elegance in a sportswear brand. Throughout the eighties the Cruyff sports brand was seen on all kinds of sports pitches. The brand developed sportswear for football; but also for indoor sports, hockey and leisure. The Dutch Olympic team proudly wore Cruyff sportswear during the 1988 Olympic games in Seoul.
