I am a writer and a potter. Like both of those disciplines, my photography leans toward the utilitarian. I learned photography as a community journalist with small papers that had no dedicated photographer on staff. I learned to see light, crop mentally, and even work the darkroom. In recent years, I have slipped into the role of family photographer. Grandchildren will do that to you. My eldest brother, Jim, was the real photographer. He studied with Ansel Adams and produced a body of work I inherited last year on his death. We talked about doing a book together. We may yet.
