CHICAGO PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY (CPS)

FIRST ANNUAL VIVIAN MAIER PHOTO CONTEST

OFFICIAL RULES

ENTRY PERIOD

The Contest begins November 1, 2012, at 12:01 am Central Standard Time and ends December 31, 2012, at 11:59 pm CST. All entries must be received by the Entry Deadline.

 

Winners will be announced during January Spotlight Meeting on January 31, 2013.

 

WHO MAY ENTER

The Contest is open to all members of CPS, both amateurs and professionals. Members of the Chicago Photographic Society (“CPS”) Board of Directors, as well as employees of Sponsors and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses, regardless of where they live) or persons living in the same households of such individuals, whether or not related, and parent companies, affiliates and agents of Sponsors are not eligible to enter or win a prize. Entrants must be at least 16 years of age as of the date of entry.

HOW TO ENTER

To enter electronically, please visit ChicagoPhotographicSociety.org to register. A fee of $10 per image is required enter this contest. There is no limit on the number of entries a Member may submit, so long as the entry fee is paid for each image. All proceeds are used for prizes and to cover Opening Gala expenses for the winning images.

You must pay your entry fee via Paypal by clicking the Donate button on the upper right corner of the main page. Once your entry fee is processed, the registration process has been completed, you will receive an e-mail confirmation including a submission link. Images formatted in JPEG only, measuring 1,000 pixels on their long dimension are preferred. Images may be color profiled in sRGB, Adobe-1998, or not color-managed.

PRIZES AND TERMS OF AWARDS

Grand prize winner will receive a Fujifilm Finepix X100 camera + $150 Gift Card from Calumet Photographic

There will be prizes for First, Second, and Third place winners, plus up to eight Honorable Mentions.

In addition to our main sponsors George Street Photo & Video and Calumet Photographic, CPS will likely offer additional prizes from many well-known national and international companies. A detailed list of prizes will be posted before the December 31, 2012 Contest Entry Deadline.

ANY POTENTIAL WINNERS ARE REQUIRED TO EXECUTE THE FOLLOWING:

WARRANTY OF OWNERSHIP: Photographer must warrant ownership of the submitted photograph, in a form acceptable to CPS.

PUBLICITY RELEASE: Photographer must sign a release permitting CPS and its sponsors to use awarded images to promote the current and future contests. Photographer is NOT required to give up copyright to the image, or to allow Sponsors to use the image to directly promote their own products or or services.

THE POTENTIAL WINNERS MUST SIGN THESE TWO DOCUMENTS NO LATER THAN 15 DAYS FROM THE DATE OF PRIZE NOTIFICATION IN ORDER FOR SPONSORS TO AWARD THE PRIZE. NONCOMPLIANCE OR RETURN OF PRIZE NOTIFICATION AS UNDELIVERABLE MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION AND, AT SPONSORS' DISCRETION, SELECTION OF AN ALTERNATE WINNER.

 

ADDITIONAL PRIZE TERMS:

•No prize transfer, assignment or substitution by winners permitted. If an offered prize is unavailable, Chicago Photographic Society reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.

•Winners are solely responsible for all taxes. CPS may issue an IRS Form 1099 to any winners.

•Winning images will appear in an online gallery at ChicagoPhotographicSociety.org

All winning images are likewise planned for display at an art opening Gala followed by an entire month of joint exhibition at the gallery space available inside Calumet Photographic Chicago Store between March 1 - March 28 2013. Artists are responsible for printing, mounting and delivering their work to Calumet Photographic Chicago store before 4:00 pm CST on February 20, 2013.

JUDGING

Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality and effectiveness in expressing the contest and category theme. The Panel of Judges will include photography instructors and internationally renowned photographers, among others. Winners will be selected during the month of January, 2013. All decisions of the Judges are final and binding.

CPS and its Sponsors reserve the right not to award all prizes in the event an insufficient number of eligible entries meeting the minimum judging criteria are received, as determined by Sponsors and Judges in their sole discretion.

CONTENT RESTRICTIONS

Photos may not contain offensive material or violate any third party’s rights. Prohibited content includes:

 

-- Names or identifying information of anyone other than the Photographer.

-- Lewd, vulgar or obscene images or text, including but not limited to images or text that is likely to be offensive to individuals of a particular group based on religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, or similar characteristics.

-- Material that violates or infringes another’s privacy, publicity, copyright, or other intellectual property rights.

 

If in the sole discretion of CPS or the Judges a submission contains prohibited content, the photograph will not be considered for a prize. In such cases entry fees will NOT be returned.

CONSENT AGREEMENT

Submitted materials will not be returned. CPS and its sponsors are not responsible for the loss or damage of any entry. Submission of an entry to the contest automatically constitutes the contestant's acceptance of all conditions set forth in the above rules, including but not limited to the right of Chicago Photographic Society to use the entry for publication on ChicagoPhotographicSociety.org and in exhibitions and promotions related to the CPS Photography Contests up to 36 months following the contest.

 

Entries not complying with the rules set forth above will be disqualified.

 

CPS is solely responsible for the administration of the contest, and Sponsors are in no way affiliated with the contest or liable for any matters arising due to the contest.
