I have known John for many years. Through all those years John has proven himself to be exactly who he seemed to be from the first moment I met him on flickr. A pillar of the flickr community, if there ever were one. John commands such respect, not because he is pompous or self promoting, but because of who he is. Anyone can take a glance at his photostream and see John's photography is beyond compare. Never a flaw to be found. He can take the most beautiful and intimate, yet natural, photos of his subjects that I have ever seen. His skill at photography is matched by his knowledge of the animals he photographs. Never have I known a photographer who knows each zoo animal by name along with its life's history like John does. And anyone lucky enough to follow John's stream will soon be privy to the details of their lives too. John shares his knowledge freely, but its often mixed with his crazy humor and limericks. I think he likes to keep us on our toes, trying to unravel his facts from his humorous fiction. I like to get a cup of coffee before I check John's stream. I know I will be enjoying his post for some time, and it will be a treat for my eyes as well as my mind. Which reminds me John is not only an award winning photographer, but also an accomplished writer. He seemingly writes flowing pages without effort. He has even written and published his own book. If the world were fair, it would already be a bestseller and he'd be a millionaire. Although John has become my friend over the years, there is no one who commands respect like he does. I will, and I imagine most of us will, always look up to John as a sort of mentor to us all. When he gives advice, we are wise to take it. That is, of course, after we figure out if he is serious or pulling our leg.

What to say about conwest_john… other then he is a brilliant photographer who seems to bring his subjects to life? He is an intelligent and provocative person with seemingly endless talent. I look forward to seeing his posts not only to marvel at his latest, but usually to learn something I had never thought about. Oh and the occasional quip we tend to exchange too. (the instructions to the left tell me not to leave a rude or nasty testimonial, so this is the best I could do!) We share not only a love of our wild cousins but also ice hockey. I've no idea how he gets them all to pose so well, he's either got lots of patience or they're very well trained! ;-) I have had so much fun following the exciting lives and adventures of the wolves, bears, jaguars, cheetahs and other animals on his photo stream over the past months!
