connell’s honesty and courage strike me. and his power of vision. and the clarity of his vision. subverting common places and discarding many of our false securities is his job. such trifles as god, love, america, the future, hope, memories, youth, power, sex and sexuality…all these are sieved through his heart and intellect. his diptychs are the result of a painstaking research. connell is investigating our fears, our being alone, our past. his work is subtle and strong and a bit of a mistery. his discourse is nonchalantly punctuated with oximorons, metaphors, paradoxes and all sorts of visual effects. it’s not easy and sometimes not even confortable to inspect. immediate but never so obvious. it needs pondering and a lot of attention. be sure it can be disquieting and make you feel uneasy. and yet, after watching his work you do not feel weary or lost. quite the opposite, you feel a new strength rising within you and a willingness to go on – no matter the difficulties you will confront yourself with on your way. it is always worthwhile spending a little time on these images for they set our minds at work. these compositions cause a short circuit in our brains that, far from leaving us in the dark, enlightens us with a durable and warm light. sometimes then they are so patently beautiful they will fill your heart with inexplicably overwhelming joy. connell’s visions come out from somewhere very deep in all of ourselves. digging them out, getting the dirt off them, moulding them into something visible – so that we too may perceive them – is something only a few can do for us. you are one of these, connell. thank you for sharing your talent and gift with us

...I think I'd like to be his biggest fan, if that position isn't already taken.

Connell not only surrounds himself with beauty but he creates it. His diptychs are quite thoughtful -- some are subtle, some striking. Not only is Connell an excellent photographer and collagist -- he is also a super friendly bloke. Three cheers for Connell!
