I photograph since 1975, when I was 12 and started with a fully manual Russian camera Smena 8M. I am the "old fashioned" guy who plays around with ISO, aperture and exposure time. My camera is never on P!

Some of my photos which you can see on Flickr, have been published online or printed in National Geographic, BBC Wildlife Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, Greenpeace Magazine Germany, PetaPixel.com and many others.

April 2016 I had a major stroke and was 5 weeks in a coma. Thanks to the love of my wife, the good doctors and excellent therapists I am almost recovered. I have a hemianopia, a partial loss of sight on one side (my left one) which is not so good if you want to be a photographer. Because 3 out of 4 patients with similar aneurismas do not survive the stroke, I have to be happy and "see" the hemianopia as a minor problem. I am grateful I am alive and hope to photograph again, one day.
