A student of ancient European history.

I love the imagery of Northern European pagan warrior culture, their gods and lifestyle. In particular I focus on the migration from Scandinavia of the Gothic speaking peoples in the first millenium BC to the eventual settlement within the crumbling Roman Empire of 300 - 500AD.

Although much is known through Roman and Greek writers in antiquity, this is a relatively unexplored and undocumented subject matter.

I am currently researching and writing on the subject, but feel the best way to express this is to immerse myself physically and mentally into the persona of a 4th century Asdingi Vandal.

The Asdingi were one of the various tribes which were part of the Vandal ethnic group being contempories of the Franks, Burgundians, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Huns, Alans and late Romans. The Vandal name is used today in the context of a destructive nature, which came about as a result of the Vandals sacking Rome in June 455AD provoked by the reneging of a marriage proposal between a Vandal Prince and Roman Princess.

The Vandals became extinct as a galvanised nation in 534AD with their defeat in North Africa by the Byzantine army of the Emperor Justian, but some remnants did survive and melted into the tapestry of pre Viking Europe.
