Jazz musician and photographer extraordinaire. Steve and I connected through flickr but I was lucky to hear him perform the 'sticks' live at Tula's in Seattle. Steve approaches his photography just like he does his music -- a modest and learned perfection. In a year or more his work has progressed to another level. I have learned a great deal from Steve and I look forward to someday hearing and seeing his jazz and photography performance in Vancouver. Do I dare call him a professional photographer? Steve is the best kind of photographer: a skilled observer who is both a teacher and student all at once. Every time I visit his stream -- which is often-- I learn something new, whether it's lighting technique, composition or a new way to look at something simple and beautiful. His portraits give us the sense that we are meeting someone real, and I love seeing how he expresses his passion for music visually. You can almost hear the cross-rhythms in his music shots, the best of which seem to work on so many different levels. Steve has a great eye for compositions and an amazing skill to see and capture the beauty in moments. I enjoy to follow his band and orchestral photography as well as his great people and portrait shots. Especially the latter was what attracted me at first when visiting his photostream, but I soon found out that he is not at all limited to a certain genre. He has a serious and professional interest in both the artistic and the technical part of photography and he demonstrates his commitment to and support of the flickr community also with being the founder of the Optimizing Your Setup / Resource Center group which I particpate in with great pleasure since then.
