The Krasnoyarsk National and Cultural Autonomy of the Chuvash People

Who we are:

We are the Chuvash People living at Krasnoyarsk region (Siberia, Russia). In the Siberian and Krasnoyarsk regions the Chuvash people grounded in the 19-th century, when the Russian Government distributed the lands among migrants. Nevertheless we always remembered about our native land of Chuvashiya (the Chuvash Republic, Volga Region, Russia now) and always aspired to be united to save the Chuvash traditions, the Chuvash culture, the Chuvash language.

Living among Turks, Finno-Ugrics, Russians and going through different severe trials of attempts of assimilation the Chuvash people could keep their originality and their unique features. The history of our people began in ancient times, and they are the successors of Volgo Bulgaria. An astonishing assimilation of the culture of different civilizations, religions and time had influenced on the character and faith of the Chuvash people. Suffice it to say that they are the only in Europe (except gagauzes) among Turks people, who adopted Christian Orthodoxy. That's why thanks to the fortunes, the Chuvash people carried out a special role between the West and East, Christianity, Islam and Orthodoxy.

The Chuvash people in Krasnoyarsk City and Krasnoyarsk region have the Krasnoyarsk National and Cultural Autonomy of the Chuvash People (Gennadiy I. Khramov, PhD, the President).
