Chucky D was born in Carlton disitict, a small community on the outskirts of Montego Bay, Jamaica. He grew up listening to reggae and dancehall as is norm for almost all children growing up in Jamaica. It was a a street dance in his community when an older entertainer from the community called Chucky D to the microphone to perform. Without hesitation Chucky D took the microphone and gave his community a great performance.

It was after this performance that Chucky D discovered he was naturally talented, and from that point on he started writing lyrics on a daily basis.
