I used to take pictures for fun, worked my way up to taking pictures for money, and have circled back around to doing it for fun. “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life" DOES NOT mean monetize your hobby.
You may also notice that I do very little retouching. It is a skill I acquired through a lot of hard work and practice in the knowledge that it would make me a more commercially palatable photographer, but I've abandoned the practice. I feel it sets unrealistic beauty expectations and I'm not going to be party to that. My current retouching philosophy is: remove blemishes that'll disappear in a week and whatever the client asks for. I want people to look like people.
