Christopher Meade, who was born and raised in Hatboro, PA, has been interested in photography since the early 1990’s, becoming involved in digital photography in 2003. His focus has been on nature photography. The only training he had in photography was a community college class he took after graduating college. Chris learned the basic mechanics of how to use the camera and of photographing. He was using a fully manual Kodak Retina Reflex SLR from the early 1960’s that he received from his grandmother. He learned a lot and gained the confidence to experiment more and learn on his own.
Christopher was influenced greatly by the nature photography of his grandfather and also by his career in science. In graduate school he learned to develop black & white film for use in scientific publications, which stimulated him to pursue his hobby further. Although much of the work he does today is digital, Chris still enjoys and appreciates B&W film photography and developing. In a more subtle way, science has an effect on his photography because of the scientific rigor involved in the technical side of photography. Beyond creating a pleasing composition there is the technical aspect of applying the right settings and using the right lens to achieve the photo that you want. This is the scientific side of photography.
