I’m Christian Payne, Documentally in some places, a writer, photographer and trainer.

In my weekly email at Documentally.net I write about what we share, how we share, and where we’re going.

My photographic journey has always focused on the storytelling aspect. From news and features for the daily newspapers in the early 2000's, through freelancing as a documentary/press and PR photographer for the following fifteen years. I always sought to capture authentic moments and the essence of people in their environments.

I’ve had the privilege of traveling to diverse locations, from international cosmopolitan cities to mountainous war zones. Photography has always been the mainstay of my story capture, supported with audio, video and text. Often from a mobile device.

Early adoption and experimentation with realtime multimedia sharing saw my relationships with news organisations shift from publishing with the likes of the BBC and Guardian, to delivering training for them. And in the last 20 years I have supplemented my photography with writing, running workshops and public speaking.

I'm pleased that when many social networks come and go, Flickr is not only still around, it has in many ways improved. It’s not just a platform for sharing images; it’s a vibrant community where I can connect with fellow photographers and enthusiasts. Keeping this passion alive. It's even brought me clients and commissions.

My approach to photography is mostly rooted in curiosity and a desire to connect. Through the years I’ve not really been that precious about what I've shared here. You'll see all kinds of snapshots, and experiments. From street photography, conference grabs and happy accidents.

I hope you can find something that inspires, or that evokes some kind of emotion or reflection.
