I am a full-time professor of environmental politics at Drexel University and a part-time wildlife photographer. In my photography, I value my encounters with wildlife as well as the quality of color, light, and composition more highly than I do the choice of species. I also deeply appreciate the immediate gratification of the work, as compared to the slog of academic research and publishing. That said, since I do most of my photography in Philadelphia and surrounding areas, my research interests have also taken an urban turn, and I find myself thinking and writing about the politics of human-animal relations in urban settings.
