My appreciation for Design evolved over the years, as I studied the subject in greater depth. By A Level I knew Design was definitely the area I wanted to pursue and after research and experience, Graphic Design really stood out and excited me. The idea that one particular design idea can influence individual’s thoughts, actions and every day life really inspires me. I relish the opportunity of one day being in a position to be an inspiring Designer. The use of advertising and promotion within the retail market is something that I have always taken notice of and I find it extremely interesting how different designs are created to influence specific sector in the market. After looking at University degree courses, I realised a Foundation course and ultimately a Degree course in Graphic Design would really benefit me and enable me to grow as a Designer, looking at the psychology behind Art, as well as widening my knowledge and experiences of Art and Design. It could also mean that I make the most out of a Degree course, building on past experiences with workloads. Because of my natural enthusiasm for the subject, I find that I am quite the perfectionist when it comes to my work; from the initial outline of the project until fruition I am fully focused and absorbed, finding it hard to concentrate on anything else until a final design is made and I am happy with it. My interest in design seems to follow me into everyday life, and I often find myself focussing on aspects of products, buildings and designs for hours after I have seen it. I see design as a tool which enables someone to understand concepts and gain so many different ideas about both complex and simple subjects.
