Some random thoughts about taking pictures:
I am fond of colour; I like texture too.
I find the way long lenses can make things seem two-dimensional endlessly fascinating.
If I had to take one lens into the shower it would be a long one.
(The lens that is, not necessarily the shower.)
Occasionally though only something sub-35mm will do.
I'd rather stop down than go for bokeh.
I should post more photographs of people.
I should post more photographs generally.
That said, looking back through my photostream, maybe I should post fewer photographs.
But anyway, I doubt whether Gary Winogrand would have taken photographs, just to see what something looked like on Flickr.
Black and white is not better than colour.
There are two more letters in 'Hugh Cartier Bresson' than in 'William Eggleston'
I have nothing against post-production.
I am not particularly good at scanning negatives.
I don't feel film is somehow good while digital is somehow evil.
I do think different cameras suit different situations.
I also think that different cameras influence the sort of pictures you take.
I have far too many cameras, but I'm gradually learning which one to take with me when I step outside.
Photography is worth taking seriously.
Nothing is worth taking solemnly.
Except maybe apostrophes...
Some random thoughts about flickr:
I remember when it all felt a bit more like a village than it does now.
I wish I had more time to comment on other people's pictures.
I try not to lavish meaningless praise and I don't think I have ever used the word 'capture' in a comment.
Group related comment-gifs blow chunks and will generally be deleted.
There are many lovely people drifting through the flickr-verse.
I should fave more.
I should prune my contacts list to only include people I suspect would be nice to have a - not necessarily alchoholic - drink with.
I should prune my contacts list to only include people whose photos I regularly view.
I'd like to think flickr has helped me improve as a photographer.
