July 2010

I got a flicker account last fall to display photos of my work and that of my studio and students.

I also during last fall learned to make a website... My experience with computers up until that time was email, research and very simple formatted documents.

Of course I was attracted to all the art. I had no idea up until that point that I could create visual art with my camera and computer as I do in my studio.

The software with my camera and the program on my computer was only enough to intrigue me. I got a Picnik Pro account about the first of this year and I spent the winter learning how to use the effects. I added a fractal program into my mix in the early spring. I've learned a lot but I still have a long way to go. It's all been trial and error. However I've been a painter for 30 years so I know what I like visually. I most always use photos I've taken of my own work or in the natural world that surrounds me. I mix in other subject matter on occasion. Family, friends, the pets, frogs!!

In addition I have met so many awesome people! People All Over The World!! And got to see so many amazing images! As an artist who works in the visual, it has been an amazing journey to explore this new medium with so many visionaries! I, Thank You, For Your Company!!

Chipmunk Hill Arts - View my most interesting photos on Flickriver

I never questioned that I was an artist. But being a born-artist and making a life creating is something else...

When Life dealt my hand, the cards were thrown into the wind and I picked them up and played them as best I could. In spite of the hard-knock's upbringing I had and becoming a teen-age mother I managed to find my way through the muck.

My art was my light. I held onto the tattered cloth flapping in the wind and pulled myself up. Mending the remnant's as I snailed my way up the delicate threads of my existence. Creating the something out of nothingness... With one slender silver cord plugging the whole contraption into my well-spring. And like a siphon, it began to flow...

Fortunate that I grew up in the rural wooded countryside of southern Indiana where I wandered and played under the watchful eyes of the ages-old fairies from the misty grottos in the forested karst-cropped ravines and hollars...

Chipmunk Hill lies at the threshold of the Fairies World... I've always felt as a Gatekeeper there...

I have several degrees... In Nursing and in Art; Painting, Sculpture and Art History...blah, blah blah...(I think the paper means squat, at least for the most of it... any way you see where I'm going with that; however for those that need that, there you are.)

I left nursing in 1983 after Nick (#2 son) was born & started art school in 1985. I have worked as a charge nurse in orthopaedics and actually enjoyed working as a surgical nurse when I was once upon a time...

**and more recently, taught art- drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture rtc... at the Bloomington Area-Art Center.... to all levels and ages of students for about 15 years before striking out on my own a couple of years ago.

**In between the nursing and the teaching I raised the two suns, homeschooled, did my art and sold it at events and Festivals. In addition I organized and facilitated Kid 's Art Activities at the Festivals that My kids and I attended. We all love drumming and playing music...

Currently I work independently from my Chipmunk Hill Arts Studio. I have quite a number of students of all ages who come to my studio for classes in clay/ceramics, drawing and painting. Many of my students are Homeschool Familes. In 2009 I had about 250 classes in my Chipmunk Hill Studio for some 700 students! (Who'd have thought!!?)

I have two beautiful, intelligent, talented sons. We self/homeschooled. They are grown and live near by. They are creative, independent and resourceful as well!! They are the angels that came to help me achieve whatever it is that drove me back to this planet in the first place!!

My kids and I play music together too and have since they were little... (I'm working on getting that art out there too...more to learn and do;) Somewhere in all this I played the part of a new-age folk musician singer-songwriter. I have a couple of albums and group recording projects:

Undecided Choices: None of the Above and

Purple-Gamma 8

are the two I'll get out first) Kind of the soundtrack of my visual art... In the meantime I like the idea of using my lyrics to illustrate my artwork! Fun, fun, fun!!!

"The family that plays together stays together!!!"

I teach (organize and facilitate) a weekly art class at the Community Kitchen of Monroe County. I have offered the class for 14 years now. It is free for the patrons of the Kitchen. The Kitchen offers daily meals and facilitates many food programs for those in need in the Bloomington-area. I try to help feed the creative-hunger... These days many souls are starving... This opportunity to create offers a glimmer of hope or a life-line to those who are living with much hopelessness...

As an "old-school" artist I have not up until recently (Fall 2009) used the Web as an outlet for gallerying my work. I bartered with a couple of homeschool parents; website for art classes. They suggested I get a Flickr account to link to my website and here we are...

I have had a blast putting my stuff out there, learning to use all the computerized art toys, networking, looking at all the BEAUTIOUSMAS images out there and being in awe of all the genius artists in this universe!! I say Thank You All!

2009 I turned 50!! I've been feeling like the shell has cracked and the light is streaming through... For the first time in my life I feel like I am in sync! I am ready for anything and having the time of my life!!!

So, let's go...

My Fairy name is Bramble Elfshimmer She is said to be a cheerful sprite. She lives in leafy dells and bluebell glades. She is only seen when the first flowers begin to blossom. She wears bluebell-blue dresses. She has delicate green wings like a cicada.Get your free fairy name here!
