A photographer since 1973, and a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, I have a passion for nature photography.
Macro has always been a huge interest - seeing details in tiny subjects fascinates me. Other subjects include birds and other animals, and more recently, abstracts from nature. Once I started to really look, I found I had exciting compositions all around me, many of them fleeting (especially ice!) Hours fly by when I'm absorbed in my photography.
I've had seven solo shows at Mass Audubon's Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary (they can be seen in my albums.) I received the Grand Prize and First Place in Mass Audubon's "Picture This" photo contest in the category of Plants (2023), First Place in the category of Plants (2019), and Honorable Mention in the category of Landscape (2017). Two of my photos have been selected as covers of "Explore" Mass Audubon magazine (Winter 2021 issue and Winter 2019 issue). I have also donated my photos to the Nature Conservancy. An interview, Capturing Nature: Cheryl Rose Contributes Art for Conservation, was printed in the Fall 2009 Update (Massachusetts).
In late 2014, I received Second Place, Other Wildlife, in the National Wildlife Federation's 44th annual photo contest. There were over 29,000 entries, so I was surprised my frog won!
I was the Featured Photographer in Issue 179 of On Landscape Magazine. And in 2020, I received Third Place for "Arts in Bloom" at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (and had a floral arrangement created based on my photo.) Also at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, I received Third Place in the Member Show 2025 and Second Place in 2024.
As the years go on, I'm having even more fun with my photography. There's no end to subjects to explore!
