I am simply a lover of Nature and I want to use photography to convey her great beauty to others. These photos are spontaneous without any preparation or props or tripods so that the beauty of Nature can be captured just as it is. Each album is a photographic study of the Wild Beings of Nature presented in sequence on long hikes in wild places where one never knows what will show up next. The sequence of photos reveals the diverse character of each natural place that is visited, giving a sense of the habitat and ecosystem. I try to capture all the plant species that are in bloom in the moment as well as all the butterflies and bugs, lizards, etc. that show themselves. This overview perspective gives a snapshot of this Natural Place in a moment in time. I do my best to identify by common and scientific name each wild being that I photograph so that viewers can expand their knowledge about Nature. Each photo album/essay includes a map that shows the routes of the hikes and camping location.

The photos have been re-sized and tweaked with the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) app for Linux. Wildflower identification is done primarily with the "Wildflower Search" desktop website "http://www.wildflowersearch.org". There is a free Android version of this app available for each U.S. state from the Google Play Store for smartphones. These Plant ID apps are excellent. Since plant identification is often tricky, other sources are used as necessary.

Camera: Lumix FZ 1000 with Leica 25-400 lens. This is an ideal camera for Naturalists because it does a great job on closeups and can also zoom to capture butterflies, birds and animals from a distance. All of this is possible without the difficulty of carrying several lenses and changing them in the field. There is no attempt to compete with the best lenses in the camera world because the emphasis is bringing to light the individual Wild Beings of Nature rather than technical photographic perfection in the camera world. This camera does a better than average job and is easy to pack around.
