My Flickr postings serve two purposes. First, I want to share my better pictures. Secondly, I use Flickr to organize my pictures in taxonomic order by class. The file names start with a 2 to 4 character alphanumeric code that sorts to the family level in taxonomic order. The next part is the scientific binomial species name. This is followed by the date (YYMMDD) and the ordinal number of photographs of the species taken that day.

I spend more time photographing birds than other living things. Birding is popular because the number of species is manageable. When I am traveling, I can "shoot first and ask questions later". From the photographs, I can usually identify the bird species. My education was focused on botany. Identifying an unknown plant to species level is next to impossible from photographs alone. I have thousands of photographs of pretty flowers and unusual plants that I have yet to identify. Class Insecta is an even greater challenge.

My typical cropped image is in the 10 to 20 megapixel range on the original file. Many of my earlier images were reduced to 1024 pixels on the longest dimension for uploading to Flickr. Anyone desiring prints or commercial print quality images may contact me using Flickr Mail. Please include the file name in your inquiry.

I am not in the photography business. I do it for my enjoyment. 50 years is long enough to worry about making money.

ME

My wife CaroleSong took this picture. She is just starting to get serious about photography. She has a good eye and is progressing with her technical skills. Check out her work. Through the last 48 years we have tried to share each other's interests. She likes to sing. I like to listen. I tried to join her in a choir once. It didn't last long. The choir director thought I sang like a bird. 060L090320D3839

The greatest advantage to getting older is my Senior Pass to National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands. If you see me at one, say hello. If I don't have my hat on, protect yourself from the glare.

Geo-tagging -- With the exception of nesting sites and other sensitive locations, the locations are as accurate as my memory permits. For sensitive sites, I have deliberately shifted the location to a nearby town center or park headquarters.
