I have been a Professional Photographer for more than 10 years now and have run Scott Roth Events LLC since 2008 which now incorporates several different brands (Mistletoe Bride, Rubbing Shoulders, Cubbyhole, and Mitzvah Mayhem). I am also involved in Law and Politics.
If I had to think of the best thing that I get out of being a photographer, it’s the ability to look at the world through different lenses. As a photographer you get used to seeing things around you in different ways.
You envision a telephoto lens and what you would focus on with it.
You envision a macro lens and focus on details.
You envision a wide angle lens and get the big picture
You start doing all of this before picking up a lens so you know what approach to the photography you want to take. Seeing the world through different lenses, allows you to really appreciate the beauty of nature, the architecture in a city, the skills that go into performances, so on and so forth.
In addition to just visually seeing things in different lenses, I take the same approach to philosophy. I approach conversations that involve deep convictions with the “different lenses”. Conversations about laws, politics, relationships, religions, gossip and more.
Using different lenses in conversation allows me to be more open minded and less “I’m right, you’re wrong”.
The advent of social media has made it so people feel less alone in the world, and therefore more willing to differentiate and show their convictions in front of those close to them like family and friends. People are alienating their friends and family that they can reach out and hold, in favor of the support they get from an “online community”. This is ultimately what is making our society much more divisive.
The idea behind Changing Optics is to get people both young and old to get behind a camera, look at the world through different lenses, physically see how you change your focus based on the different lenses and then apply that understanding or enlightenment to their everyday conversations so that ultimately people can hold true to their convictions without alienating those friends and family who are close to them
Thank you for taking the time to read this and we look forward to seeing you on this journey
