The Colonial Fox Theatre Foundation (CFTF), a 501 (c) 3 corporation, was organized in December 2006 and is dedicated to the economic development of Southeast Kansas through the preservation and utilization of the Colonial Fox Theatre. The Colonial Fox Theatre project is a community driven project to restore Pittsburg, Kansas’ only remaining historic theatre from the movie palace era of the 1920s.

When the Colonial Fox Theatre reopens its doors, its adaptive reuse as a multi-purpose venue for professional and amateur artists will remain consistent with its historic function as an entertainment venue in southeast Kansas. The theatre will feature stage performances, music concerts, independent/classic films, art exhibits, performing art workshops, and film and music festivals. This diverse utilization of the theatre will protect the history of the area while providing programming and services that allow all generations to continue the journey on this historical path and to rekindle their appreciation of our historical resources and the preservation thereof.

The Colonial Fox Theatre looks forward to providing enhanced opportunities for the educational growth of our young children through innovative programming and interactive tours, which will bring the history of the theatre alive to young minds. At the same time, the CFT will reach out to citizens who are under-served in the area of downtown entertainment. The revival of the Colonial Fox Theatre will provide cultural and artistic opportunities that will encourage our diverse population to once again experience the downtown community by attracting not only local audiences, but also those from the whole of southeast Kansas and our neighbors from Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
