I live in the SE corner of Washington in the Valley of the the Walla Walla Sweet Onions, wineries, 3 colleges, and the state penitentiary. I work for a local non-profit and volunteer through different organizations. I keep myself occupied with a little garden, two cats, quilting, traveling, and other creative outlets. I'm Native American (Paiute/Sioux) and love the Pacific Northwest tribes' art (salmon, whales, eagle, totems, etc.)
Things that I like
colors: purple, black, rainbow
chicken, pineapple, asparagus, thai food
Marvin the Martian
sterling silver
Things I dislike
Mowing my yard
watering my yard
washing dishes by hand
For quilting, there are things I do not like:
Old granny fabric (tiny floral prints, reproductions, Denyse Schmidt, Thimbleberries, etc.)
Aneela Hoey fabric
Sweetwater Hometown fabric
Farmyard animal fabric
Novelty fabrics
Pastel fabric
Holiday themed items, especially christmas. I do not celebrate christmas, but I like snowflakes. Just hate seeing santas, christmas trees, presents, etc.
Kaffe Fassett fabric (I appreciate the bright colors but all together looks "messy")
Western . . . really dislike western, unless it's a unique Native American vibe that is not all about the Southwest Natives.
Vintage sheets, prints
Quilting things that I like:
Clover seam ripper
Kate Spain -- Central Park and Terrain are lovely
Joel Dewberry (some prints, love the colors) -- Heirloom
Patty Young (I love the colors, but not the juvenile prints) -- Sanctuary, Flora & Fauna, Mezzanine, AndaLucia
Chicken wire and crackled paint fabrics
Mary Englebreit
Laurel Burch (I like the bright colored fabrics)
Batiks and hand dyed fabrics
Fabrics that look like a texture (stone, wood, water, etc.)
Farmer's Market fabric (Sandi Henderson or RJR Fabrics)
Watermelon themed items (can be printed fabric or pieced to look like watermelons)
Dots
Stripes
Geometric
High contrast fabric but I also like fabric that reads like a solid
Black and White fabrics, any kind, love checkerboard too.
It's a Hoot by MoMo
Sunkissed by Sweetwater, especially the light grey!
Non-stereotypical ethnic feel, inspired by the arts
Art or abstract quilts
I appreciate the interesting use of color/fabric/prints in quilts. Please see my photostream of quilts I've made and my favorites. I like traditional quilts if the color is interesting/new/fresh (log cabin, bargello, samplers, etc.). I also like new twists on standard blocks (new wave is a twist on the tumbler). I appreciate the simplicity as well as the geometric appeal (flying geese is a great example). I LOVE applique, but I personally haven't had the motivation to do more because it is a lot of hand work. I'm all about easy. :-)
