Celtic Crypt - or: what is retro-progressive?

At any rate retro-progressive means fifteen years later!

Celtic Crypt started their career between 1998 and 1992 in a small German township in South Westfalen. This was right before equably bands like THE Hives and THE Konsorten overwhelmed the world. With a musical crossover of indie, punk, wave and rock music, which people called »progressive« at that time, Celtic Crypt conquered the early 1990ies, just to consequently disband themselves during their first notable success.

But the seed was sown, firmly sealed in the hearts of the five musicians, since the parting none of them could ever let go. Fifteen years later Celtic Crypt reunited after having been spread throughout the country, where they collected new musical experiences in punk, rock or even folk bands. So Celtic Crypt tied in with the past, offering today a tense mixture of songs of the early 1990ies, new and revised songs and some carefully chosen cover versions of the inspiring 1980ies, transcribed to the style of the new millennium, therefore called »retro-progressive«.

Of course they are still playing in the originally cast: Wolf-P. Daude (bass), Stefan Hammermeister (guitars), Olaf Reinwald (drums), Marc Sieper (vocals) and Dirk Weuster (keyboards). Since 2008 a new member joined the band: Martin Prang (e- and acoustic guitars).

Celtic Crypt is made of filigree bass works, dominant keyboards, dreary and heavy guitar riffs, a rhythm between punk and metal, paired with hot-tempered vocals. And, by the way, there is completely no »THE« in the name – instead, there is a phonetically completely wrong spoken »K« at the beginning of »Celtic«.

Or if you need another suggestion: Imagine: The Rolling Stones, Dream Theater, New Model Army, Elton John, Edgar Allan Poe, Salvador Dali and Frank Zappa are mixed to a weird musical made by Quentin Tarantino, probably in cooperation with David Lynch. Enjoy.
