Raised by a feminist mother who refused to let me wear dresses, I have been cursed—perhaps blessed—with an affliction marked in equal parts by obsessing over the beauty of color, form, shape, and texture in dress, and a fascination with sociology of gender and historical dress of women.

My decision to create millinery came not from a love of hats, but rather out of a need for a canvas on which to display intricate couture handwork… pleating, beading, and embroidery are the stuff of my dreams; Applying these ancient, dying arts to a functional three-dimensional form—if only for the humble purpose of honoring and celebrating the human visage—brings me great pleasure.

I hand-sculpt my hats from rabbit fur felt, and buckram which I overlay with silk and other natural fiber fabrics. Just like my embellishments, I sew the hats completely by hand, using neither machines nor glue.
