Mission Statement:

Child Care Information Service (CCIS) advocates for and connects children and families to high quality, affordable child care resources.

 

Since 1973, CCIS has served the Pasadena / San Gabriel Vallely foothill communities with regard to meeting parents’ needs for child care and promoting quality care in child care settings. CCIS has two primary program functions:

 

Subsidized child care for families who are currently on CalWORKs, earning low wages or in need of emergency, short term child care, and Specialized programs and advocacy to promote high quality, early education opportunities for children, and to help parents make informed decisions about choosing child care for their children.

 

CCIS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. The Board sets policy for the agency, raises funds to support child care quality programs, plans strategic directions, monitors and evaluates existing programs and activities, and is responsible for the fiscal management of the agency.

Child Care Information Service (CCIS) proudly offers the following programs:

 

Subsidized Child Care. CCIS assists low-income working families with child care costs with the following programs:

CalWORKs. California’s welfare-to-work program, CalWORKs, is designed to gradually move welfare families towards self-sufficiency. CCIS administers child care payments to providers to enable parents to participate in the workforce.

Alternative Payment. The Alternative Payment program provides assistance in paying for child care services for children of low-income working parents. The program also aids children who are in the foster care system. Eligibility is based on income and space availability.

Children In Crisis. This is a short term program for families in need of temporary child care. It provides a safe child care environment while families are experiencing a short–term emergency.

 

Quality Programs:

 

Resource & Referral. Selecting a child care provider is an important decision for working parents. This service offers referrals to licensed childcare providers to any parent within our service area. In addition, CCIS provides information about available child care options and materials to assist parents in choosing their child care provider. This service is available to all parents, regardless of income.

Child Care Provider Training. CCIS offers providers a variety of educational workshops and resources including a number of classes on such topics as safety, CPR, special needs, outdoor play and environment, early literacy (alphabet appreciation, sequencing and patterns), nutrition, etc. Sessions are conducted in English & Spanish. A schedule is published regularly on our training calendar.

Resource Library. CCIS Resource Library offers child care providers access to resources in their ongoing work with children. We have over 2,500 materials available—books, blocks, puzzles, infant toys, art materials, items that support dramatic themes and materials for sorting, linking, building, dreaming, learning, exploring and creating. Laminator and die-cuts available for in-library use.

Collaborative Literacy Project. Teachers and Providers working with 0-5 years in the CCIS service area, and the City of Glendale, are eligible to take free early childhood literacy classes at Pasadena City llege. These classes offer an abundance of resources, support and accredited Extended Education Units.
