With an estimated 1000-1500 Burrowing Owls, Cape Coral is home to the largest population of the Florida species of Burrowing Owls in the State. Sandy soil and wide open areas provide excellent habitat for these birds.

As a species of special concern, they are protected by Federal laws. Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife is actively involved in the preservation of not only the Burrowing Owl, but all wildlife that calls Cape Coral Home.
