Casa Blanca 2 is a gallery dedicated to the realization of artistic investigation and activation of urban space. We don’t have a physical gallery of our own, but rather, we borrow spaces within the city to hold exhibitions - thus challenging who is both maker and viewer of art. We operate through a unique collaborative structure that is based on active participation of artists, cultural institutions, city agencies, in addition to everyday businesses, people, and activities.

The distinctive character of Casa Blanca 2 is a commitment to facilitate the production and exhibition of public artworks that engage the specificity of their surroundings. Our intention is to operate with a flexibility that can respond to the shifting desires and intentions of a city, and in turn, to test new structures of collaboration and venues for the presentation of innovative artwork.

Casa Blanca 2 has three areas of focus: exhibitions, discussions, and documentation. The exhibitions are public interventions that take the form of installations or performances, often tucked away in the urban landscape intended to stretch the comfort zone of both the artwork and the audience. The discussions are meant to create a channel for feedback, build capacity, and exchange ideas. And the documentation will be both printed material and web-based providing an ability for the ephemeral nature of the exhibitions and discussions to be further continued and distributed. We are not specific to medium, but work with producers from all disciplines to create a site-specific artwork.

Casa Blanca 2 hopes to make achievements on all grounds: in the middle ground occupied by the art itself; in the background, where new relationships and alliances are forged between organizations; and in the foreground, where viewer’s and maker’s of art will become more diversified. Through our exhibitions we hope to create latent provocations as an effort to shape the integral role that art can have within a city and its development.
