I've been living in Addis Ababa for the last month or two. Ethiopia is, of course, a very poor country, but it is stlll pretty nice.
I like photography as a way or recording truth. By all means every picture should tell a story, and the best pictures may be in some sense lies or at least not representative (taken under very unusual dawn light for instance). But I like my pictures to capture truthfully what I saw, and that is a never-ending battle, against crappy lenses, crappy sensors, secret coding standards, "black box" software (we'll do it for you and not tell you what we are doing), and more.
I'm currently shooting with a D3. The sensor is the best thing going (in Feb 2008) for a DSLR, and the mechanics are wonderful. It is my first "pro" camera. My workflow is a work-in-progress; I'm trying to use Aperture 2 as primary photo storage.
