Testimonials
Me gusta el estilo de Carles Solis, me gusta su blanco y negro, me gusta su estetica, fuerte, directa, como la vida misma.
A master of monotone. The detail in carlessolis' work is impeccable. I go back to this gallery time and time again, and find new nuances every time.
Humanism..... Many times I have begun trying to write a testimonial for Carles. In the end, I inevitably ended up writing what risked becoming an essay. Humanism..... Many times I have begun trying to write a testimonial for Carles. In the end, I inevitably ended up writing what risked becoming an essay. Too many words can detract from what is essential. And then, I almost decided to risk a testimonial with only one word: HUMANISM. For Carles is, in my view a humanist through and through. His love of humanity, its various cultures and in particular his empathy toward those in turmoil and/or struggle is evident. But his empathy and compassion do not show these people as victims, rather as people with innate inner strength visible only to those who look beyond what seems apparent. Those that look within. In short; humanists. In a recent conversation with Carles I was reminded of the words by Che when he once addressed an assembly of metal workers in Habana, where he said something akin to "to be a true revolutionary you must, above all else, first and foremost have love in your heart. Love for humanity..." My intention in the above quote is not meant as an attempt at defining humanism as something exclusive to one political thought. On the contrary, whoever feels love and compassion merits recognition whatever his or her political leanings. However, it is evident that people who tend to care about others rarely join the camps of Pinochet, Franco, Stalin or other such lost souls. In Carles work I see that love for humanity. It is unavoidable. It is distinguished. It is praiseworthy. And it is not to be passed by. Flickr, as interesting as it is, would be better were there more photographers of the same ilk as Carles. In fact, the world would be a better place.....

After several visits and "trips" through carlessolís' photostream, i feel i have to express my appreciation of his work, here. Whether he uses colour or black and white (see his "Brazil" set, and you will need some time to recover), his images remain just as striking and intense. Very few photographers that i know have this ability to master both styles. But beyond the technical aspects, i think it is a special sensibility that touches me in carlessolis work. For behind this work of great photojournalism, there is someone who's not afraid to approach humanity, someone who doesn't hide behind the lens. And this, i think, makes a difference!

You owe it to yourself to browse the black and white set on Brasil. You owe it to yourself to browse the black and white set on Brasil. Some outstanding photographs with unbelievable, national geographic quality portaits. i always thought a photograph was good if it evokes some sort of emotional response, whatever that response may be. As long as it makes you linger to look at it. You can emote and linger as long as you want in the Brasil set. Marvelous work. I need to make an addition to the testimonial. i've been visiting this photostream regularly for some time since my last comments. the current photos/portraits from Myanmar are exceptional. almost everyone posted is beautifully composed and captured. you owe it to yourself to keep coming back here. great photographer.
