The Center for Alternative Photography in New York City is a workshop-based educational organization devoted to teaching original 19th century photographic processes and 20th century emulsion-based photography.
The Center has been active with this model for five years in response to the technological transformation fostered by digital photography. Our mission is to expand the palette of artistic and visual communication tools available to photographers, artists, and visual communicators. Our goal is to teach photography comprehensively, starting from its invention (Daguerreotype, Collotype, Collodion processes, etc.), through to the digital age.
Our team of faculty, artists and practitioners will also provide educators with access to resources and facilities to research in early photographic processes from historical, creative and conservation perspectives to help them broaden their teaching capabilities.
