Some Kind of Blue has done much of what we said we'd do below; built up a new audience, made a new life for the club, created a unique record of the legacy of the music and moved the venue from operating as an amateurish hobby into a professionally run business without losing any of the charm.

Friday night jazz club and bar that does great food too; Set up by members of St Giles' church congregation in 1996 or 1995, the story varies. Has been host to great jazz every Friday ever since (except Good Fridays and Christmas Days of course). A great local reputation that's spread further afield but has remained rather demure and unrecognised on the wider jazz circuit. That's all about to change.

Since July 2010, when the last actively involved original founder retired, management of this atmospheric, somewhat under the radar, with a vibe strangely reminiscent of some of the best New York live jazz venues, underground space was taken over by Some Kind of Blue Ltd on invitation of The Church of England, who want the legacy of the jazz venue to be sustained, nurtured and developed to its true and far greater potential.

From being a rather modest, shy and retiring place with a late night license accommodating 150 people including the weekly band, Some Kind of Blue will put Camberwell Crypt Jazz Club right on the London, European, north American and International Jazz scene.
