As I've gotten older and my eyesight has faded, I use photography as a "prophylactic" aid. A few years ago while enjoying my other hobby of visual astronomy, I perceived that the faint fuzzies (e.g., nebulae, galaxies, comets, etc.) I saw in my telescope were getting fainter and less fuzzy. I found astrophotography could help me keep the thrill of discovery I enjoy so much with visual astronomy by seeing phenomenon beyond my eyes' capacity. After watching numerous sunsets and sunrises while star gazing, I discovered the joy of time compression with time lapse photography. I'm now into macrophotography, and I feel like I am exploring a new planet. I change out my efforts periodically between astrophotography, landscape time lapses, and macro. There is always something new to learn and observe, and the skills from one area often complement the others. Clear skies!
