I've always been interested in photography, ever since I was a wee boy, and sitting in my Papa's living room watching Survival on the TV gave me a longing to see the animals of the African savannah for myself. I wish he had seen it too... but alas; although he was an old poacher, so perhaps best he didn't!!!

I've been lucky enough not only to have witnessed the migration on holiday, but to have lived in Kenya for almost 3 years and be able to pick and choose when to go to the Mara, even for a weekend on a many occassions, camping and cooking breakfast; with the local inhabitants sometimetimes taking too keen an interest. I was really blessed to be able to do that, and to meet some amazing people along the way, something I will take to my grave. It was that period of my life where my love of photography and nature was rekindled, and why my passion is mainly for wildlife photography today.

In the last decade I've not only been lucky enough to live in Kenya, but since leaving have been fortunate enough to be able to travel back almost annually, East Africa really holds a special place in my heart, and always will. It is a place where I feel at home whenever I return.

Recently though I've also started travelling to Asia, which is also so amazing, and so different to Africa. Spending time with Bornean Pygmy Elephants, Proboscis Monkeys and Orangutans not to mention the other amazing species found there has been a revelation. The rainforest is so different from being on safari in Africa; if not a little too humid for my liking!!!

Back at home I love Northumberland and the Scottish Highlands. The Farne Islands, off the Northumberland coast, are as amazing as anyhere in the world for seabird activity.

My expedition to the Maasai Mara during the summer of 2012 has come and gone already, it was fantastic, but a little too early for the migration. I spent 7 nights in the Mara and one night at Naivasha for the birds. The Mara is without a doubt my favourite place in the world, even with the changes that have taken place since I first visited in 1988.

Now I have to decide what I'm going to do next year, the Pantanal in Brazil is a possibility, but no decision made yet! Update... decision made it's off to Borneo at Easter, going to Lahad Datu this time for Tabin and Danum Valley and then off to Kenya in July 2013 to catch the migration. The trip to the Pantanal has been shelved until 2014!

So to my equipment... I shoot in digital format using a Canon EOS 1D Mk 3 and a 7D body, with various lenses attached, although on safari my cameras normally have a 100-400mm and a 400mm f5.6 with 1.4x attached; as it's the best I can afford to be honest... but, TAKE NOTE... I'm willing to become a Canon Ambassador for the price of a 600mm prime and a 1D X ;o). I know, I'm so easy!!!

There are so many amazing photographers on Flickr, I am continuously inspired by their quality, originality and ingenuity. Some are so consistantly good they should consider turning pro. You know who you are!!!

Life is all too short, so I really appreciate you spending some of yours by stopping by and having a look at my photos. I hope you leave thinking I've shared something special with you.

Ahem...
