Photographer, Artist, Creative Leader for the future who is continuing a journey of hope and dreams.
About Me:
Having grown up in the beautiful countryside outside of Baltimore, Maryland, I was surrounded by sweeping views across rolling fields and vivid colors presented in country gardens. As a boy, I often would sit at the top of the hill behind my parent’s home and take in the vivid blue of the sky against the varying greens of the forest and meadows. During my favorite time of year, the springtime, the bold reds, purples and pinks of the azaleas in bloom excited my senses took my mind to an exhilarating level of happiness and joy. Like any young child, I would dream about exploring as many places and hoped to experience as many happy moments that I possibly could. The memories of simple and hopeful days on that hilltop are the influence for my photographic and artistic perspective.
My photographic perspective is two-fold. In my landscape and ‘places’ photography, I utilize juxtaposition of color and composition, in an attempt to present a grand, unique perspective and point-of-view of beautiful places. In contrast, I utilize my macro-floral photographs to bring the vivid color and detail of the garden to a larger-than-life size scale. My photography has been featured in the National Geographic publication “My Favorite Places on Earth” as well as several local and regional travel guides and websites.
And then there is Burning Man. My participation as part of Burning Man was transformative for me. In my three years on the Playa, I found much about myself that I did not know existed. I FOUND myself. Every day I live the Principles of Burning Man and bring the immediacy of Burning Man as a gift to those I interact with. My Burning Man photography is the story of my journey - my Rite of Passage on the Playa. Of course, I owe much to my visionary mentor, Jim Bowers. In him, life is hope and hope is life.
In my art, I use acrylic media and vivid colors to portray a sense of place and time in abstraction and in great detail. Many of my paintings utilize my unique ‘board-on-board’ composition and photography overlays to present specific detail as a focal point against an abstract and compositionally connected background. My art has been presented in several private shows and is a part of several private collections across the United States.
It’s my hope that my work can bring you closer to experiencing the same happiness and passion for exploring both the grand scale and the finite beauty of the world around us that it has for me.
I was born in the countryside near Baltimore, Maryland, lived outside of San Francisco, California for a decade and now have returned home to Maryland. It is back home that I now restart a photographic journey that began more than 50 years ago!
