The Councilor of Gabagaba village in Papua New Guinea presents his group's Social Infrastructre Map
A five-year (2012-2017) project from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will support district and community-level climate change adaptation interventions in 12 Pacific Island countries.
The multi-national Coastal Community Adaptation Project (C-CAP) will rehabilitate and construct new climate-resilient social and economic infrastructure in coastal zones, build community engagement in disaster risk prevention and preparedness, and work with stakeholders to integrate climate-resilient policies and practices into community and district land use plans and building standards.
C-CAP will assist up to 90 vulnerable coastal communities across 12 Pacific Island countries to withstand more intense and frequent weather events, ecosystem degradation, and sea-level rise. C-CAP is headquartered in Fiji, and works with stakeholders in Solomon Islands, Nauru, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

Listed below is a list of all the C-CAP partner communities followed by the kind of adaptation support that USAID has provided. Clicking on the links will take you to a series of Google Maps which use the Flickr images on this account to document the climate change risks that communities are facing in C-CAP project countries. The maps also contain images of important infrastructure vulnerable to these same risks with descriptions which summarize concerns that community members expressed during C-CAP participatory assessment work.
