i'm an american-born photographer, living in tokyo. i studied photography in high school and college in san diego.

actually, i consider myself an artist first, and a photographer second, even though most of my work is photographic. i like to make things: i love to cook, and some of my furniture is made by me.

i also studied computer science (briefly) and japanese, among other things, in college.

i don't like capital letters.

i don't like to categorize, tag, or title my photos, though i realize that doing so helps people find them more easily. therefore, after looking at my "better" shots, i realized that most of them could be described by the following seven basic themes:

* darkness (literally and figuratively)

* japan

* bare humanity (literally and figuratively)

* abstract

* impermanence

* imperfection

* beauty

many of my photos contain more than one of these themes, and some don't fit any.

read into this description of myself and my work whatever you want, or not at all.
